Privacy policy
Last updated 5 October 2026
Hunt'em is a treasure hunt game for families. Grown-ups hide Hunt'em Gems around the home, and children find them with the app. This policy explains what information the app uses, why, and what we never do with it.
Who we are
Hunt'em is made by HUNT'EM Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, registered office 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA. We are the data controller for the information described here.

The short version
- No adverts, ever.
- No third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tools of any kind.
- A child never needs an email address, a real name or any contact details to play.
- We store only what the game needs to work, in our own database, and we never sell or share it.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.
What we collect and why
When you open the app
The app signs you in automatically with an anonymous account: a random identifier with no name or email attached. This is how your hunts, family and explorers are kept separate from everyone else's. The app also creates a random install identifier stored on your phone, used only to stop people abusing Gem set-up (see "Gems and boxes" below).
Grown-ups
- Your family. A family name (optional), a Family code that lets another grown-up's phone join your family, and which phones belong to it.
- An email address and password, only if you choose to add one to your account. Handled by our database provider; we never see your password.
- A Parent PIN, if you set one. We store a scrambled (hashed) version, never the PIN itself. It is there to keep small hands out of the grown-up area, not as bank-grade security.
- Hunts you create: clues, themes, and any reward message you write.
Children (explorers)
- A display name chosen for each explorer. It can be a nickname; it is shown only within your family and to the grown-up running a hunt your child joins.
- Game progress: which Gems were found and when, stars earned, and the character and outfit items chosen.
Explorers belong to the family, so every grown-up's phone in the family sees the same explorers, stars and outfits.
Gems and boxes
Each Hunt'em Gem contains a code and a factory serial number. When you set up a box, we record that your family has access to it so the app knows your Gems are genuine. To stop abuse, we log set-up attempts for a short time (see "How long we keep it").
When you join a hunt with a code
To stop people guessing codes, we log join attempts, including a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your network address. We never store the address itself.
When something goes wrong
If the app hits an error, it sends us a short technical report: what went wrong, which screen, the app version and the phone's software version, tagged with a random ID that changes every time the app opens. It contains no names, emails, explorer names or hunt content.
Why we're allowed to use it (UK GDPR)
- To provide the game you asked for (contract): your account, family, hunts, explorers, progress and Gems.
- Our legitimate interests: keeping the service secure (rate limiting, abuse prevention) and fixing bugs (error reports). We keep these to the minimum and delete them quickly.
Children's privacy
Hunt'em is designed around the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code):
- Privacy is high by default. There are no settings to switch off because there is nothing to opt out of: no ads, no tracking, no profiling.
- No chat, no public profiles and no way for strangers to contact a child.
- Anything commercial or outside the game (buying Gems, emailing us, sharing a Family code) sits behind the grown-ups' area.
- We don't collect a child's location, photos, voice, contacts or real identity.
Who else handles your information
We use Supabase to host our database and servers, in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). Supabase processes data only on our instructions under a data processing agreement and does not use it for its own purposes. We use Apple to deliver the app; Apple's own privacy policy covers the App Store. We use no other companies to handle your information.
We will never sell your information or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account, family, hunts, explorers, progress | Until you delete it or your account |
| Install identifier on Gem set-up logs | 24 hours, then removed from the log |
| Join-code attempt logs (incl. hashed network address) | 7 days |
| Error reports | 90 days |
Your rights and choices
- Delete everything: Parent Zone → Settings → Your data → Delete account. It is erased straight away. If you are one of several grown-ups in a family, leaving removes only your access; the family's explorers stay with the family.
- Remove one explorer: long-press the explorer in My Explorer → Remove.
- Leave a family: Parent Zone → Settings → Family → Leave.
- You also have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, to object to how we use it, or to restrict it. Email [email protected] and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant (for example, if we ever used a new service to handle your information) we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
